Synthetically accessible, high-affinity phosphate anion receptors.
We report synthetically accessible receptors with protonated amines attached to a conformationally constrained backbone including amide units, and demonstrate that these receptors have high affinities (log K > 5) for phosphate anions in aqueous media at pH 7 in the presence of high concentrations of competitive chloride anions (ca. 100-fold excess).
متن کاملHuman osteoblast-like cells contain specific, saturable, high-affinity glucocorticoid, androgen, estrogen, and 1 alpha,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol receptors.
Glucocorticoids, androgens, estrogens and 1 alpha,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (1 alpha,25-(OH)2D3) exert a variety of effects on bone homeostasis. We have measured the receptors for these hormones in cultured human osteoblast-like cells. Specific binding was found with each of the four steroids tested, namely maximum binding capacities, Bmax, of 2,581 (1,368-4,223), 146 (101-237), 176 (20-552),...
متن کاملDo pyrotechnics contain radium?
Many pyrotechnic devices contain barium nitrate which is used as an oxidizer and colouring agent primarily for green-coloured fireworks. Similarly, strontium nitrate is used for red-coloured pyrotechnic effects. Due to their chemical similarities to radium, barium and strontium ores can accumulate radium, causing a remarkable activity in these minerals. Radium in such contaminated raw materials...
متن کاملCloning of the beta cell high-affinity sulfonylurea receptor: a regulator of insulin secretion.
Sulfonylureas are a class of drugs widely used to promote insulin secretion in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. These drugs interact with the sulfonylurea receptor of pancreatic beta cells and inhibit the conductance of adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent potassium (KATP) channels. Cloning of complementary DNAs for the high-affinity sulfonylurea receptor indicates th...
متن کاملCharacterization of the binding of sulfonylurea drugs to HSA by high-performance affinity chromatography.
Sulfonylurea drugs are often prescribed as a treatment for type II diabetes to help lower blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion. These drugs are believed to primarily bind in blood to human serum albumin (HSA). This study used high-performance affinity chromatography (HPAC) to examine the binding of sulfonylureas to HSA. Frontal analysis with an immobilized HSA column was used to ...
